Be Safe, Take A Lesson
In the July, 1996 issue of Consumer Reports, an article about skating equipment stated that investing in a lesson is the smart way to start out. No matter how good your equipment is, taking a lesson is the only way to ensure safe skating habits.

For beginners, it's a perfect way to overcome your fears and get comfortable on your skates. A professional skater not only knows safe skating techniques, but can advise you on the safe skating areas for beginners. In a beginning course everything is covered from how to put on your equipment to looking cool!

Taking a lesson is not just for beginners, but for advanced skaters who want to go faster or learn new skills. Many skaters may wonder what exactly they are supposed to practice in order to improve their skating skills. A certified instructor can teach you power stops, backwards crossovers, backwards skating and forward to backward transitions.

Many people think that having a friend teach them is a good idea, but they can teach you bad habits that might be unsafe and inhibit your skating ability later on. Certified instructors are trained in proper teaching techniques in order to ensure that in-line skating is taught safely and professionally.
